PENSIL!

Have you heard of the movie Pensil? No..the spelling is all right. No mistake in it. Pensil is a locally produced Tamil drama that was aired on ASTRO channel 74 last Saturday at about 2.00 pm. The story highlights on a young physically challenged boy named Kuppu, who lives with his abusive unemployed drunkard father that forces him to sell papaya to buy food and (samsu) alcohol. His two closes friends are an unmarried neighbor lady and an old blind lady in the village. Kuppu's only passion is to draw, hence saves money to buy lots and lots of pencils without his fathers’ knowledge. However, one day his father finds out about it, furiously beat him and throws his pencils away.

Disaster after disaster occurs but Kuppu’s life went on as usual till one fine day, the same drunkard man that recklessly drove and knocked Kuppu's mother to death, knocked him aswell. When Kuppu finally find out the truth about his mothers death, he made his decision to leave the village with absolutely nothing but his pencils that was buried underground to pursue his passion for drawing.

I am usually not fond of local movies and it takes a miracle for me to actually say, “Wow! The movie is great!”. Nevertheless, Pensil was simply superb, solute to the director, the lead actor as well as their crew. The director presented the story so real so touching and so sad while the actor acted it so genuinely. There was simply no essence of acting at all …everything seems so real. I cried and cried and cried even more towards the end specially when Kuppu digs out his buried treasure…. not money..not gold but his dear pensil.
